I've been spending a lot of time reading about Haiti and watching the news. We, in California, are used to earthquakes but damage that is as devastating as the disaster in Haiti is unfathomable. I've added a button on my sidebar that takes you to the White House site with links to find more information about how to help.
Pillows say comfort to me. When I sit on the couch and watch the news, I want a pillow. Not for behind me, but in my lap. I know other people do the same thing because if I'm not to the couch first, the pillows are already in someone's lap. I've decided I need more pillows.
I made the one above yesterday. I used a print of a vintage valentine. I ironed some canvas so it was extra crisp and ran it through my printer. Than I cut some of my precious Cath Kidston fabric to border it. Just for Pink Saturday, and because I thought it looked cute, I used pink chenille around the edge. Also, if I use pink, than maybe my boys will leave it alone. Maybe.
This one was made last week. I scanned my favorite vintage valentine and bordered it with Mary Engelbreit fabric. It doesn't really go with the newest pillow, so it's in the chair that no one sits in unless there's no where else to sit. Which is usually me because I am always the last one to sit down. Must be something to do with being a mother. I'm sure, if you're a mother, you know what I'm talking about.
These two chairs are for company. They're not the most comfortable but aren't they cute. I see now that the one on the right needs another coat of red paint on that slat. Not bad for chairs that came from a yard sale. I bought three of them and a table for six dollars. I figure that made the chairs about a dollar each. Cool!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone. I don't have any plans except to sit on the couch with my pillow. I'll have to get there first. Don't forget to visit Beverly and all of her pink friends. I've just stopped by one of my favorite pink friends and she's having a giveaway. Susan at Black Eyed Susan's Kitchen is giving away a book. All profits from the book go to the Red Cross for disaster relief. Susan's my kind of gal!

EEK! Those pillows are absolutely too die for! I thought*I* was the only one who cheated and ran everything imaginable through my printer?! YAY for ingenuity! Yay for pillows! They are just too TOO cute!
Your chairs are wonderfully whimsical...I love the colorful slats! I will be back to watch your living room progress!

I love both pillows! I hope you have a lap top and you are on the couch right now! Don't leave it, hehehe! Those ladderback chairs (we call them ladderback chairs) are tdf! Have a great weekend on your couch and doing whatever YOU want (here is one mother speaking to another).

Hello Betty,
Those little ladies are sweet and perfect valentine ladies. I think it's genius too putting those pink details - hands off boys LOL
I remember the painted chairs on your dining room and these two should get along well with the others too.
Happy Pink Saturday!
Mizpah,
Li
(I've heard the news about Haiti. It's scary which brought my mind back in 1991 where an earthquake struck where we are right now. We didn't move yet back then but my cousins, aunts and uncles recollection of that event was so horrible and very scary. People in Haiti now will surely have a mixed of feelings, feeling I would never imagine. But to keep them in prayers, not only for the victims but for the people who are on the spot there to help, it will surely help)

Your pillows are adorable and it's great to have something pretty to hold! The news is so devastating-I cry when I watch the news too. Hopefully more help will be there soon.
Happy pink week!

Hi Betty, I have been captioning continuous stories from Haiti and it's just heartbreaking, just awful. I am either in tears or on the verge for most of it while I work.
I love your pillows, so dear! I've never tried putting my own fabric through a printer, I've always bought the storebought sheets, have you encountered any issues with using your own fabrics? Happy PS! Suzie

Betty, The pillows are great! I would be afraid to break my printer if I sent fabric through it. You'll have to do a post about that and how you do it!!!
Please?!

♫Happy Pink Saturday♫
Gloomy and gray over in my neck of the woods today so all of the pinks shared this Saturday are so special and cheerful. They remind me that there are more colors than just white, gray and black.Your pinks are wonderful! My goodness - so special☺
I hope your weekend is filled with sunshine surrounded by the laugher of those you love.
Please pray for the people of Haiti. May God bless each and every soul.

Your pillows are wonderful. I hear ya on the wanting to "hold" the pillow when you sit down. I've observed that, too! What a great idea...to let folks hold something so sweet as you Valentine designs.
I love your happy ladder back chairs! It looks like you're having lots of fun with the paint!
Happy Pink Sat. L, Dana

Where on earth did you get such cute fabrics? So retro-reminds me of the story books my Mom read to me when I was little. Yeah, I'm crying for Haiti, too. What a horrific disaster to happen to a group of people! They have suffered enough over the years.

Oh my Betty, I love those pillows. I'm like you and I like a pillow in my lap or sometimes a warm cat. Thank you for your kind comments on my flickr picture

I love your pillows! You are so creative. I wouldn't have thought to do it like that. You're right. The tragedy in Haiti is so horrible. It is indeed hard to fathom.

Scanning a valentine- what an awesome idea for a cutie pie pillow- and I know what you mean about a pillow on your lap- I think its the hugging thing that gives us comfort. When I read in bed, I like to put a pillow on my stomach to prop up the book. That probably has more to do with physical comfort than emotional comfort :)

I know - it's just heartbreaking. Pray that they are able to get food and water and doctors in there soon.
Betty, I adore your colors - it must be a happy place to share a meal. Yep, I always grab a pillow to hug and oh my gosh you make the cutest things! Oh yeah, I was a bad mother too - I just sent lunch money. LOL But my grandson got cute little lunches! Loved your post. :) Nancy

Betty !
Those two pillows go perfectly together. The color schemes are complimentary AS WELL AS the themes of the pillows. They are just soooo gorgeous ! Cath Kidston and Mary Englebreit fabrics ! What a great way to get the most out of them. And I agree, the fellas will probably grab another pillow without chenille fringe. Oh so darn cute !
How sweet and cute are your ONE DOLLAR chairs ! The creativity angel has visited you and stayed ! Well done !
Thanks for putting a link on your blog for the White House site for donations for Haiti. We have already visited there and donated. Prayers and compassion go a long way as well as donations. I know you know that dear Betty without me saying.
Hugs, Janice

I love you pillows. I think you had a smart idea to make them pink and girly. The fringe and maybe adding some lace would help to scare them off too. Happy Belated Pink Saturday.

Oh my goodness, I love those cute pillows! Love that you used vintage valentines, too! Valentines are my favorites. Thank you also for the information on how we can help our friends in Haiti. Have a blessed weekend! Vicki
