My hubby and I went to a Summer Solstice party tonight. It was hosted by a nurse friend and her partner, a local doctor. They are involved in wildlife rescue and the Fresno Wildlife Rehabilitation group was on hand with a selection of raptor birds.
I was most taken with the Asian Owl. He is so beautiful and he sounded like a little, wise, old man as he kept hooting..."Who? Who?". My husband was not afraid to get close.
My hubby would eventually like to be involved in the group and help rescue and rehabilitate the birds. I might volunteer to work in the office.
There is a large raven named Igor with an interesting story. His owner is in jail. Apparently he had not only taught the Raven to speak, but also to steal mail from mailboxes!
We had a wonderful time! I had to apologize to my hubby. I was originally reluctant to go. I have had a fear of birds for years. I took all of the pictures though and I was able to get within a few feet of the birds. Not to mention we were at a gorgeous home on the bluffs above the San Joaquin River and the food was delicious.
My daughter was invited to go with us. She is even more terrified of birds than I am and declined. Apparently while we went to the birds, she was setting up a blog. Her best friend always calls her Martha because Christy likes to cook, sew, scrapbook, crochet... So that is her blog name: My Best Friend Calls Me Martha. Go check out her blog and say hi. She's got a great recipe for tabouleh. I'll be excited to see what else she comes up with.
