So you ask-What have I been doing lately?! Well, maybe you didn't ask, but I'm telling anyway. Not much. That's what I've been doing. Unless you count taking down the tree and putting away the gazillion boxes of decorations. Seemed like a gazillion anyway. I've been working on Valentine's swaps. Heidi at Foxgloves, Fabrics and Folly is having one and so is Dolly at From My Cherry Heart. Dolly is taking signups until the 9th, so it's not too late to sign up!
I've been watching lots of t.v.. My son has an X-Box and now you can download movies straight from Netflix on to your x-box. So, I've been watching old classics and some new classics. I've been working on my granny square blanket and thinking about resolutions. Last year I resolved to be healthier this year and stay on a diet. Except for a very quick slip and recovery at Christmas, I managed to stay on a diet all year. I'm two sizes smaller than last year. That's my goal again this year. To be a least one size smaller when my 50th birthday rolls around in December. Maybe I shouldn't say rolls though. Eek! Last year, my doctors talked to me about a gastric bypass to help with my diabetes. I came this close (-) to having one but decided to diet on my own. I've got my blood sugars at near normal levels, my eyesight has stabilized and I can finally look at a chocolate chip cookie and walk away from it. So, that's as far as I've come to making resolutions. I did just add one though. I will finish this granny square blanket and be sleeping under it next January!
I am soooo glad you gave up on the gastric bypass idea!! My daughter-in-law had the surgery and almost died from it. Before all was said and done, she had 9 surgeries as a direct result of the bypass. She developed a leak in the stapled stomach and ended up with peritonitis, pneumonia, sepsis, ulcers, hernias and much, much scar tissue. She spent months not being able to eat normally. Her nourishment came from a form of IV feeding called a TPN. She did lose a ton of weight, and has kept most of it off. She had to have ulcer surgery so has virtually no stomach, so can't eat much at a time.
I am on a personal campaign to open peoples' eyes about this dangerous, dangerous surgery. I just wish the Lap-Band was available in Montana when she decided to do this five years ago.
An upside-because of the extreme weight loss her ovaries started working and she had two babies, but was really not strong during the pregnancies. The babes are great now, but even that was touch-and-go for a while.
Sorry to bend your ear for so long but whenever I hear about people going for that surgery I kind of freak out.

I still have to learn how to crochet more than a rope...so you are a winner already. And eating no chocolate in Januari was one of my resolutions, but I should have written no chocolate bars. I don't manage no chocolate yet, but I haven't eaten a bar of my favorite chocolate by the name of 'Ritter Sport". How ironically; do you like sports, yep I Ritter Sport every day!

What an accomplishment Betty. You go girl! This dreary weather has me holed up with my foot propped up (I just had foot surgery) and watching lots pf movies, blogging and reading. I need to pick up my knitting needles and finish some projects. Maybe I will before I go back to work.

I just loved reading your "this n' that", post this morning. Just normal happenings in your life, as you create, enjoy some movie time, and ponder the coming year. And I agree with so many here. You go, girl!!! Congrats in every way, Betty, on stabilizing your blood sugar, and improving your eyesight! Am one who has become far more plugged in to health than dress size, so while I am so rooting for you re. your weight loss, am just so happy that you must be feeling better, and that you chose to skip the knife . . . and succeeded! Again, you go, girl!!!!! Hugs :-)

Great blanket! You and your daughter are so talented with yarn. I could not hope to ever compete. I crochet and knit in straight boring undetailed rows only!!
Here's to a great healthy happy new year!

Hooray, Congratulations, hip~hip horray (new hips hehehe), and YIPEE!!!
It is not easy what you have done. I know that you will be another size smaller for your wonderful 50th Birthday! Say, I wish you could also be on a warm sady beach for the celebration! ( a personal desire for a New Years Eve for me and my sweeite)
I bet you can hold the butter on my dish I posted. I wil be doing that when I make it for non special times (that means for the rest of winter probably)hehehe
Hugs,
Mary
I am so happy for you!
